FOSTER

Fostering is a wonderful way to be the bridge to a dog’s forever home. Fosters give our survivors a safe space to stay while they wait to be placed in their forever homes! It also gives them a better chance of being adopted because they are available for meet and greets in the Southern California area. We are always looking to add reliable fosters to our roster. If you would like to be considered please review the information below and submit your foster application.

"Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for the one dog, the world will change forever."

Fostering with DoVE: Q&A

Q: What do I Need to do When I Foster?

A: We ask for our fosters to care for our dog until their permanent home is found. Our dogs require a stable and caring environment and opportunities for socialization. We also ask that you make yourself available for meet and greets or events, share updates and photo/video content of the dog with your foster coordinator and on your social media channels (if you are comfortable doing so).

Q: How Long is the Typical Foster Period?

A: There is no "set" length of time - it depends on a variety of factors. The time frame can be anywhere between a few days to weeks, and sometimes longer. We ask that you foster the dog for as long as you’re able to (we try to avoid moving the dog around from home to home).

Q: Will I be Reimbursed for Expenses Incurred during Fostering?

A: DoVE Project provides initial necessities including food, collar, tag and a bed. Additional expenses over $50 need to be approved by DoVE Project prior to purchasing. Anything you do purchase for the dog can be deducted from your taxes at the end of the year. Please provide us with an itemized list and accompanying receipts and we will provide you with a tax statement.

Q: What if my Foster Dog Needs Medical Treatment?

A: If our dog needs medical attention or treatment, please contact us immediately and we will schedule a visit with our approved vet and the cost of the visit will be covered by us!

Q: What if I Want to Adopt My Foster Dog?

A: Please contact us as soon as you know you want to adopt your foster dog. If we have received adoption interest for your foster dog, you will be advised and given 24 hours to decide if you would like to officially adopt your foster. We ask that you to fill out an adoption application just as we do with all of our adopters.
